Our approach
We will ask you to fill out a detailed questionnaire so that we gain an understanding of your health and what may be causing your symptoms. During the consultation we will ask you further questions so that we can tailor the most effective treatment for your condition. Sometimes we will require you to do some laboratory tests such as hormone testing. These tests will enable us to see if you are ovulating, or you have some hormonal problems.
PCOS
Some of the classic symptoms of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome include facial and body hair, weight gain, few or no periods, acne and mood swings. Your doctor will normally diagnose PCOS through a combination of blood tests and ultrasound. The aim of nutritional therapy will be to address the imbalances associated with PCOS. It is well documented that as women with PCOS lose weight, hormone levels start to return to normal. We will also work on your diet by addressing blood sugar imbalances as well using nutritional supplements that are known to help with PCOS. We also concentrate on liver function ensuring that your body can excrete hormones effectively as well as looking at lifestyle factors including stress and exercise.
The menopause
Symptoms of the menopause can include hot flushes, vaginal dryness, mood swings, osteoporosis, lack of energy, weight gain, headaches, declining libido and night sweats. If you wish to avoid Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), we can provide you with a natural approach. For example there are certain foods that are documented to help with hormone imbalances such as phytoestrogens. We will take a close look at your diet and ensure you are eating the correct foods and where relevant we will also prescribe some supplements that may help with symptoms such as hot flushes.
