In many cases the treatment of eczema can be improved by food and nutrition. Research indicates that eczema is often the result of a food allergy or intolerance. We recommend that you conduct some tests to identify any offending foods and help you exclude them from your diet. Once this is done improvement is likely. Supplementation can also be very helpful in the treatment of eczema. We will work with you to ensure you are getting adequate amounts of key vitamins and minerals.

Acne

Acne is the most common of all skin problems. It is caused by inflammation and infection of the sebaceous glands of the skin. Heredity, hormones, oral contraceptives, contact, food allergies and dietary factors and stress can all play a role.

We have seen successful treatment by the elimination of certain foods such as hydrogenated fats, saturated fats. Foods high in refined carbohydrates (particularly sucrose) and low in fibre can also stimulate sebum production. Acne may also be due to high stress levels. There is evidence that women in high-powered jobs suddenly develop acne at the age of 30! Food sensitivities and allergies can also trigger acne in some individuals.

Aging skin

Do you find that your skin is aging too quickly? This may be genetic, may be due to a poor diet and high stress levels. If you have been overexposing your skin to the sun and wind this is also likely to cause pre-mature aging. Diet and supplements rich in antioxidants can help maintain antioxidant defences and protect skin from damage. We will review your diet and lifestyle in detail and tailor a plan to protect you from pre-mature aging.

Rosacea

Rosacea is a chronic skin disorder in which the nose and cheeks are abnormally red. Psychological worries may reduce gastric acidity and may be a cause for rosacea. Menopausal flushing, B vitamin deficiencies and gastrointestinal disorders have also been implicated. There are a number of supplements that have successfully been used for the treatment of Rosacea.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is caused by a pile up of skin cells that have replicated too quickly. This high rate of replication is too fast for the cells to be shed so they accumulate. Psoriasis may appear as red skin patches with silvery scales common on elbows and knees. There are a number of factors that may contribute to psoriasis. These include incomplete protein digestion, bowel toxaemia, impaired liver function, alcohol consumption, animal fats, gluten sensitivity and stress.
