Fertility and
pregnancy
Fertility
For some of us getting pregnant can take much longer than expected and can be very stressful. Proper nutrition is critical to maximising the chances of conception and of course to the health of your baby.
Our approach to maximising fertility
For many women the natural approach to fertility is dramatically successful. There are many causes of infertility, it is important to look at hormonal imbalances as balancing your hormones will greatly increase the likelihood of conceiving. A proper diet is also fundamental as there are also certain foods and drinks that lower the chances of fertility including alcohol and caffeine. There is a great deal of evidence that indicates the beneficial effects of supplements on increasing the chance of conception. These include zinc, folic acid, selenium, vitamin E and vitamin C.
Integrated treatment
Sometimes we will work with your doctor to ensure that you are having the proper fertility investigations. You may already be taking treatment such as clomiphene or other fertility drugs and we will work alongside this therapy so as to maximise chances of conception. We also work with patient’s who are planning to undergo IVF treatment. Our experience is that integrating the two approaches is likely to increase the chances of conception.
Pregnancy
At no other time does the quality of food eaten have a greater impact on health. The extra demands of a rapidly growing foetus often tip the scales from feeling ‘just alright’ into feeling under par. This can cause several problems during pregnancy. These include:
- morning sickness
- faintness
- headaches
- constipation
- heartburn
- piles
- pre-eclampsia
- stretch marks
- depression
- weight gain
- miscarriage
